Quick answer: For most FTTH installers in Malaysia, a core-alignment fusion splicer in the RM1,800 to RM3,400 range is the right choice. Signal Fire’s AI-5P (RM1,800) suits new or part-time installers, the AI-8C (RM3,099) and AI-9 (RM3,399) suit full-time FTTH and backbone contractors, and the AI-30 (RM5,499) is for teams that splice all day. Just as important: buy from a seller with local service and spare parts, because electrodes, batteries and repairs will be needed.

Core alignment vs cladding alignment: what is the difference?
- Core alignment machines use cameras and multiple motors to line up the fibre core itself. This gives lower, more consistent splice loss and is the standard for professional FTTH and backbone work.
- Cladding alignment machines line up the outer glass layer only. They are cheaper but less accurate, and the result depends more on fibre quality.
If you are splicing for TM or other ISP projects, or for any job where the splice will be tested with an OTDR, choose core alignment. All the Signal Fire models above are core-alignment machines.
7 things to check before buying a fusion splicer
- Alignment type. Core alignment for professional work (see above).
- Number of motors. More motors (for example, 6) give finer alignment control and more consistent results.
- Splice and heating time. Faster cycles matter when you do dozens of splices per day.
- Battery capacity. Count how many splice-and-heat cycles you get per charge, and whether spare batteries are easy to buy.
- Electrode life. Electrodes wear out and must be replaced. Make sure replacements are available locally.
- Included accessories. A full set should include a cleaver, stripper, cooling tray, carry case and charger. A poor cleaver ruins good splices.
- Local warranty and service. A splicer is a precision instrument. Buying from an authorized distributor and service centre in Malaysia means faster repairs and genuine parts instead of shipping the machine overseas.
Don’t forget the cleaver
Splice quality depends on a clean, flat cleave as much as on the machine. Fibre cleavers in Malaysia range from about RM16 for basic FTTH cleavers to RM490 for high-precision models such as the PRO’SKIT FB-1688C. If you do a lot of splicing, a high-precision cleaver with a long-life blade will pay for itself. See our cleaver range.
Should you buy or rent a fusion splicer?
- Buy if you splice every week. Even an entry-level machine pays for itself within a few jobs.
- Rent if you have a one-off project or are waiting for your own machine to be repaired. Dynamic EE offers fusion splicer rental. WhatsApp us for current availability and rates.
